Well we have now spent a whole day relaxing in Sorrento and can confirm it is a wonderful place. We decided to adopt what appears to be Italy's two favourate pass times, sun worshipping and drinking coffee and with that spent the entire morning sat on th sun deck soaking up the rays, not something I am usually gievn to doing as my attention span usually gets the better of me. But with a good book and some concerted effort I managed it for a couple of hours before popping back to the room to update the blog. Imogen on the otherhand made a sterling show of comittment to abrasing the local culture by staying out their ALL MORNING!! Wow, that girl has stamina!!
In the afternoon we decided to partake in the other national passtime, that of drinking VERY good coffee and so we strolled off into Sorrento itslef for a walk through the streets, a peruse of the tatt shops, dodge those infernal scooters and a cup or two of the good stuff.
And let me tell you, I am a tea drinker and not that big a fan of coffee (I find it too bitter and acidic) but the stuff they serve in Italy is a whole different ball game and definatly confirms one thing for me. Starbucks ain't ever coming to Italy!!
In the evening we decided to treat ourselves to a posh meal in a fancy restaurant and made ourselves a reservation at Ristorante L'Antica Trattoria Di Ioviero E Doria and it was well worth it.
The menu was a little more expensive than one might normally spend, but when it is your honeymoon you have to treat yourslef. The atmosphere was lovely all set out on a shaded terrace with grape vines growing overhead, lights in the canopy and a guy wondering around playing that annoying Italian ukulele thingie. The food was faboulous, the portions just right and the waiter was very un-Italian in that he was polite, attentive and had each course ready shortly after we finished the last (with a suitable pause between each to digest of course). Added to this he astounded us when he brought our bill over to us as soon as we asked for it. All in all a lovely evening followed by a pleasant stroll back through the back streets of Sorrento.
Granted, on the way home we got lost AGAIN trying to get back to the Hotel, but we are used to this by now and look it as just another part of the holistic navigation required to get you through Italy.
